Moon Musings - September

September days have the warmth of summer in their briefer hours, but in their lengthening evenings, a prophetic breath of autumn.
— Rowland E. Robinson

The change of seasons is upon us. The transitions are so gradual, and yet they are so tangible. The sunlight changes to a golden hue from a bright, hot white.  The angle of the light itself changes. The air becomes drier and more crisp. September feels like an opportunity for our own gradual transitions.  It feels like a perfect time to keep true to ourselves while reaching for our next best selves.  This is very similar to the role that art plays for many of our Moon Over Water artists. We share our transitions and evolutions through our work, and we embrace vulnerability by daring to share it.  At Moon Over Water Gallery, we want to be living examples of how much we believe, fundamentally and foundationally, that art is the outward expression of a vital inner journey.

Celebrating the Moon Over Water Jewelers

L to R: Danya DeLeon, Janice Clark, Diana Casabar, and Lori Fisher

We are celebrating our jewelers in September!  They grace our gallery with wearable art, and we are proud to offer these one-of-a-kind pieces at a wide variety of price points. Wearing something that is the only one of its kind, made by a skilled artist, is a way to celebrate yourself or someone you love.  It’s genuinely special.  Consider this your invitation to come by and see them. There are treasures everywhere you look!

MOW Artists - What is Your “Why”?

Kimmi Norvell Moake - Spirit. Always Spirit.

Janice Clark - I feel happy, productive, and proud when I am creating.

Vivian Rood - Why? Well, I get to play in mud and with fire! But there is something that is soothing about doing this thing.

Susan Myers - Me. I love sitting down to pottery or painting, sometimes knowing what I want to do, sometimes just seeing what happens and letting the creativity out. I feel like I’m meeting a new side of me that I didn’t know existed.

Mary Carole Sitzes - When I am in the creative process - it is a meditative state —and probably the only time that my thoughts are focused. It brings peace to my busy brain! The sense of elation at the completion of a creative idea is a true inner happiness that is doubled when I share this creation with others. It is a gift — I must use and share.

Karen Krumm - Honestly I just feel very lucky. I asked for this many years ago. I am living my bliss. Sometimes I forget that, get stressed out, or become consumed with mental garbage; I have to remind myself that I ASKED for this. Then I search for the joyful playfulness that I had somehow misplaced, and it’s always there waiting for me

Sharen Chatterton - My why is all about feeding my soul; it’s a co-creation with the Good Lord.  It’s an inspiration and peace that arrives and settles within me every time I create.

Diana Casabar - Because I feel a great need to remind You that You are Love and loved.

Elizabeth Jones - Exploring the depths of creativity is intriguing.  There are so many “what ifs.”  If I lived a million lifetimes, I’d never exhaust creativity because it builds upon itself most inexplicably and incredibly.  It’s both perpetual and exponential.  I just need to get out of its way sometimes.

Lori Fisher - The full story of the pieces I create lies in the life of its maker, its wearer, the one who admires it, and the one who takes it home. In my pieces are stories, inspiration, energy, hope, and love. They may last a lifetime or many lifetimes. I'm honored by all the admirers and the wearers.

Art Prompt

How do you make time for your “why?”   Do you dream of a studio in the forest?  Start with a sketch pad and a plant!  Do you dream of devoting an hour to just brainstorming your next art piece?  Task your brain with this before you go to bed and let it work on your behalf all night. Do you lament the cost of setting up a full studio? Get yourself some good brush and a couple of sheets of fancy paper and start there.  Let one thing lead to the next, let it be slow or fast, let it be what it will be, but you honor yourself and your why by taking action.
