For me, water holds much symbolism. I was born near a large body of water, the Gulf of Mexico, in Corpus Christi, Texas.  Growing up, I was always surrounded by water.  The bays that surrounded my home where I lived and went on fishing trips with my father, are indelible images in my mind. The beautiful sea-oat and beach vine covered sand dunes and the rushing sound of the waves on the beaches of Padre Island are images I return to – both mentally and physically – whenever I can.  Water has always soothed my soul, especially if it is accompanied by salty breezes!

Water is an element of Life – symbolic of birth and renewal.  In forming my creations, I take dried, dead plant materials and immerse them in water to make them pliable and then weave them into an art piece.  They are renewed and reborn into another form.  I give them a “new life.”

All of the driftwood and many of the seashells I have collected myself from these area beaches and some from places I have traveled.  The plant fibers: Palm Inflorescence, Palm bark, Cedar Bark, Philodendron leaf sheath and tendrils, waxed linen thread, silk, cotton, and more are combined together with the driftwood, seashells, and a variety of unique and wonderful beads to form my “creations.”

What is most important to me, in creating, is offering unique art, and that each piece is truly “One of a Kind.”
