Moon Musings - February

In the arts, as in life, everything is possible provided it is based on love.
— Marc Chagal

When we ponder what we will share with you monthly, there is one common denominator. It’s love. We love our charming coastal gallery and our vibrant community. We love our local artists, whose loving devotion to their art journeys, in turn,  fuel the journey of Moon Over Water. When people visit our gallery, they tend to comment that it feels warm and welcoming. We think that is a testament to the intangible and yet very real feeling created in the gallery that is rooted in that same love. We hope that it’s not only palpable, but also contagious!

Love is a joyful, fundamental guiding principle, and we know that if we take each step with that principle forefront of our thoughts and decisions, then we can feel confident about our next steps, and the next, and the next. Spreading the love for art, the love for our community, and creating an environment that celebrates that love every single day is a high calling, and we love every second of it.

Susan Meyers Demo

We are excited to offer demonstrations by one of our lovely, creative potters, Susan Myers. Susan will be demonstrating the technique of sgraffito, a technique in which the top layer of color is scratched away as the potter creates patterns and images on their clay pieces. Susan will conduct two demonstrations, so please plan to come by, check our her demo and Susan’s beautiful work at the gallery!

February 10th
11AM - 12PM and 2 - 3PM
during the Austin Street Art Walk, presented by Rockport Center for the Arts

New Community Project!

In addition to conducting our exciting demos, Susan has created a large free-form wavy bowl that will be the start of another Moon Over Water community project!

We invite you to come by the gallery and create a design on the bowl! Susan will assist you as you use Stroke and Coat glazes that she will provide! Once the bowl is finished and fired, this community project will be held at the gallery, with all proceeds benefiting Bountiful Bowls/Aransas County Meals on Wheels Program.

Our potters Chris Dawson, Linda Frank, and Vivian Rood will be exhibiting at Bountiful Bowls, too, and we are proud that they are resident artists here at Moon Over Water! Come see their work!

Carter’s Artisan Food Market is a Hit!

Come get some of the sourdough bread that started it all!  Carter’s fresh delectable daily delights have quite the following, and who can wonder why when the menu includes such lip-smacking options as meatloaf sandwiches, warm soups, fresh takes on flatbreads, the most delicious chicken salad around, and sweet treats too! Don’t forget about our wide variety of teas, granola from gallery artist Kimmi Moake, artisan olive oils, yummy locally-made salsas, and so much more! February Art Prompt

Love is in the air!  And it expresses itself with varying degrees of intensity.  Some love feels content and calm, while others love feels intense and powerful.  Keep that level of intensity in mind and translate that into a color that reflects it.  Does that content, calm love feel deep blue?  Does that intense and powerful love feel deep orange of vivid pink? Think of something or someone you love, and render your feelings about that in colors that reflect it.  Create an abstract design with this exercise in mind.
