Moon Musings

sym·bi·o·sis
/ˌsimbīˈōsəs,/
1.interaction between two different entities, typically to the advantage of both

Symbiosis is a word that comes to our minds often. There is a wonderful symbiosis that happens daily in our happy coastal gallery as guests come to browse or buy, and we feel enriched by each interaction, however brief.

Symbiosis exists between the giver and receiver of art.  Buying art for someone involves careful choosing and consideration of both a unique art piece and the lucky recipient.  In this gift-giving season, many of us are choosing gifts for cherished loved ones, and giving the gift of art made by local, passionate artists is a symbiotic interaction that deserves celebration.

On another level, the relationship between the artist and the buyer/collector is symbiotic, as well.  When an artist’s soul journey resonates with a buyer, that buyer participates in the journey by personally owning the art.  The connection is cemented, even if the artist and collector never meet.

And finally, a symbiotic relationship between the moon and the water forms the foundation of our name and philosophy. The moon is the art, and the water is the artist. The moon guides the water with a powerful pull that oversees the ebb and flow of the artist’s creative process.

Symbiosis may be a term you haven’t pondered since high school science class, but we all experience it daily.  Here at Moon Over Water Gallery, it happily works on many levels for us and deepens our gratitude for these interactions.

Congratulations to MOW Artist Emily McCauley!

We are over the moon!  Moon Over Water artist Emily McCauley was chosen to be a merit artist at the fabulous Rockport Center for the Arts.

Here’s an excerpt from RCA’s website:

Running November 24, 2023, through January 7, 2024, the Big Wave! Annual All-Members Exhibition will feature works from nearly 200 of RCA’s talented member artists, along with Merit Artist, showcasing three juried member artists from last year’s Big Wave! exhibition.

Heartfelt congratulations, Emily!

Art Prompt

The end of the year marks another trip around the sun complete. What emotions does that concept evoke in you? Are you happy to see 2023 go, or was it the best year ever? Was it a mixture of both? Choose a color palette that represents your thoughts and create something small that encapsulates these feelings.
