Coming Soon - Silver Linings Studio
Moon Over Water Gallery & Artisan Market is excited to announce a new chapter in its story coming this fall. The launch of a new silversmithing school - the Silver Linings Studio.
When longtime friends and artists Kimmi Norvell Moake and Danya De León became owners of Moon Over Water, they envisioned the gallery as more than a place to discover and purchase beautiful handmade art. They wanted it to be a place where people could connect with art, learn something new, and become part of Rockport’s creative community. The new silversmithing school is a natural extension of that vision.
Beginning in mid-October, the school will welcome residents and visitors of all experience levels to the gallery at 302 S. Austin St. for hands-on instruction in the enduring craft of silversmithing and handmade jewelry. Classes will focus on foundational techniques while encouraging creativity, confidence and the joy of making something by hand.
The new program is made possible in part through a grant from the Texas Woman’s University Center for Women Entrepreneurs, which will help provide essential silversmithing tools, equipment, materials, workstations and instructional resources for students.
“We started this journey as best friends and artists with a shared belief that art should be welcoming, personal, and accessible,” said De León. “Receiving this grant gives us the opportunity to create a space where people can learn a new skill, make something meaningful with their own hands and become part of Rockport’s creative community.”
Moake and De León see the grant as an investment not only in their small business, but also in the artists and future makers who will walk through the gallery’s doors. They are honored to be recognized by the Center for Women Entrepreneurs and excited to bring this new opportunity to downtown Rockport.
The Search for Teaching Artists
As preparations get underway, Moon Over Water is also seeking experienced silversmiths and teaching artists interested in leading classes, workshops, and creative gatherings. The owners hope the school will become a place where people can make, learn and gather through art, adding another meaningful dimension to the creative community that Moon Over Water has worked to cultivate.
The Silver Linings Studio will expand the gallery’s role beyond exhibiting and selling art, creating opportunities for Coastal Bend residents and visitors to experience the creative process firsthand and develop their own skills.
Class announcements, registration information, teaching opportunities, and other updates will be shared as the October launch approaches through the Moon Over Water Gallery website and social media channels.
