Robbin Robertson
Robbin Robertson is a multimedia folk artist working with canvas, wood, metal, collages, and photography. She is a 4th-generation self-taught folk artist, inspired most by her years making art with her mother, Mary Marr Robertson, a woodworker and folk artist. Her portfolio is colorful and whimsical, emphasizing a naive style. While using traditional art supplies, she prefers found objects, scraps, and recycled materials, giving "life to the lost.” Robbin paints on board, recycled frames, or cabinet doors, then fashions 3D creations out of metal, glass, found pieces, and wood.
Her work extrudes through the materials, with figures frequently blossoming from two-dimensional planes to three-dimensional compositions. She prefers patterns on patterns, details, and layers of color, deriving inspiration from her first trip to Haiti as a child. The dance of brightness, darkness, symbolism & spiritualism captured her. Later travels with her family to Europe, Latin America, Asia, Hawaii, and the Caribbean (with special inspiration from the indigenous art and textiles in Guatemala), Mexico, Peru, Panama, Haiti, and Thailand.
Robbin worked for Delta Airlines for 10 years and for 8 years as an artisan, fabricator, and designer of custom lighting fixtures. She segued into a job as a case manager in supportive housing for homeless disabled clients.
Robbin continues to paint and spends most of her time between Rockport, Texas, and Arkansas with her husband, Derek, and two dogs, providing endless inspiration and time to paint. She is currently represented in shops in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, San Juan, Puerto Rico, Rockport, Texas, and Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
