Emily McCauley

Green Sea Designs

Emily McCauley is a Texas artist specializing in marine botanical art.  Always a lover of plants and marine life, her interest in local marine plant species was piqued during a marine botany course she took while working towards her master’s degree in marine biology.  Many years later, out of a desire to blend her training in biology with her love of art, Green Sea Designs was born.

Botanical presses are made from various marine and coastal plant species collected in Texas waters. For her framed pieces, the plants are manipulated in artful styles to evoke natural movement and beauty from what is an often overlooked, but integral, subject matter of marine ecosystems.  She also uses the algae with ceramics in various textural ways and with raku firing alongside mentor and fellow MOW artist Vivian Rood.

She also offers giclée prints, note cards, a home décor collection, and a line of ceramic jewelry.  Emily was a 2023 Merit Artist for the Rockport Center for the Arts. Her work can be found in a number of boutiques and galleries in the Coastal Bend.
