Chris Dawson

Chris Dawson, a local clay artist, has loved to play in the “mud” since she was a youngster! She spent her childhood on the farm making mud pies and playing in the creek.  It was just a natural progression to continue this in the form of pottery as an adult.

Chris finds the most satisfaction in hand building. This form of pottery provides plenty of challenges that she embraces. It offers more of a creative outlet for her than the wheel. One of her favorite things are adding dimensions and interest in the clay by utilizing textures.  Finding unique items to press into the clay is half the fun. Nature provides plenty of gifts but she also loves utilizing textures from other sources.  Other texture sources include doilies, clothing, wood and household items.  However, it is not unusual to see her take apart a kitchen or lawn gadget that no longer runs to see what surprise textures it may be holding before disposing of it.
